Privacy Statement for 4empowerment®
4empowerment® has created this privacy statement in order to demonstrate our firm commitment to privacy. The following discloses our information-gathering and dissemination practices for this website: www.4empowerment.com.
We use your IP address to help diagnose problems with our server and to administer our web site. We use cookies to deliver content specific to your interests and for other purposes.
Many people who use this website are involved through classroom activities in their school. Certain areas of the site are password-protected and only accessible to those teachers and students involved in a 4empowerment® program. All students are registered by their teacher for their 4empowerment® web site username and password, and no personal information is required other than name. 4empowerment® presumes that the school's authorization to enroll a student in this program and the school's use of this website is based on the school's having obtained the parent's consent.
Our site's public registration form requires users to give us contact information (like their name and email address) and demographic information (like zip code, age, or gender). We use customer contact information from the registration form to send the user information about our company and promotional material from some of our partners. Users may opt-out of receiving future mailings; see the choice/opt-out section below. Demographic and profile data is also collected at our site. We use this data to tailor the visitor's experience at our site, allowing the interests of our community to direct the way we develop the site according to their preferences. Because most of our programs are grant-funded programs, we may also use the demographic and profile data to help our funding agencies understand the aggregate profile of our site's community.
This site contains links to other sites that we have specifically reviewed and selected for their relevance to the 4empowerment® projects. We feel that they add value to the 4empowerment® projects. However, 4empowerment® is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of web sites existing beyond the www.4empowerment.com domain.
We conduct surveys and polls on the site to collect information about the 4empowerment® community's opinions. We use your username to keep track of if you have voted (so that each user may only vote once), but we don't keep track of how you specifically voted. We track only the aggregate result of the poll or survey.
Public Forums
This site makes chat rooms, forums, message
boards, and/or news groups available to its users. Please remember that any
information that is disclosed in these areas becomes public information and
you should exercise caution when deciding to disclose your personal information.
We require all individuals who participate in public forums to register. Inappropriate behavior in any public forum will result in termination of that account and its access to public forums.
We have designed a special feature called Web Police that is available from every screen on the Web site. Web Police is a way for the community to "patrol this site" and help keep it safe by reporting any inappropriate behavior to the site's administrators. People can use the Web Police anonymously or they may supply their e-mail so that we can contact them if we have any questions.
Security
This site has security measures in place
to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control
such as access controls and the placement of the server behind a firewall.
Children's Guidelines
Because of the public forums available on
this site, this site does give children the ability to publicly post or distribute
personally identifiable contact information without prior parental consent. However, we do require a completed parental consent form for all students 12 & under on file with the participating program teacher or in our home office. If we do not receive the form within 30 days we reserve the right to cancel the child's membership.
We urge parents and children to review our section called Safety Tips, which outlines the safest way to interact online, especially in public
forums. We urge parents and children to understand that it is never safe to
give out personally identifiable information to anyone online.
Choice/Opt-Out
Our site provides users the opportunity
to opt-out of receiving communications from us and our partners at the point
where we request information about the visitor.
This site gives users the following options for removing their information from our database to not receive future communications or to no longer receive our service.
You can visit the following URL: http://www.4empowerment.com/en/sign_in.jhtml and check the "change my preferences box" available at sign in. When you sign in and check this box, you'll be given access to your preferences.
