Austin - Three Austin-based programs are among the 12 winners of the 2001 Texas Environmental Excellence Awards, the Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission has announced.The local winners are: 4empowerment.com for its "Cyberways and Waterways" program, which helps students learn about watersheds: the Lower Colorado River Authority for its agricultural sustainability programs; and Applied Sustainability for a project that finds users for wastes and byproducts.
The winners, recognized for their innovative approaches to the state's environmental challenges, will be honored by the conservation commission and the governor's office Tuesday evening at the Austin Convention Center.
