Building a D-Net
1. Bend a 36 inch piece of 9-gauge fencing wire into a D-shape, as shown at
right.
2. Cut a piece of nylon screen 16 inches by 36 inches. Along the long edge of the screen, form a two-inch casing by folding over and hemming. You may use a needle and thread or a glue gun.
3. Run the D-shaped wire through the casing.
4. Make a one-inch center seam along the top of the net, making sure to fold over the raw edges and secure them with either the glue gun or thread.
5. At this point, your net will be an open tube, reinforced at one end with the D-shaped wire. Close the opposite end by first forming a short horizontal seam, 3 inches on either side of the center seam. Be sure to fold over the raw edges and secure them as well. This will leave two gaps, one on either end of the seam just completed. (See below.)
6. Pinch the gaps closed so that they form vertical seams, each approximately five inches long. Again, secure the raw edges. The end of the net should look like an 'H' as shown above.
7. Reinforce the flat edge of the net with a strip of duct tape, as this is the edge that will be on the bottom of the creek.
8. Attach the net to the handle by pushing the ends of the wire into the predrilled openings. Glue the ends in place with a waterproof adhesive such as "GOOP" and allow to cure at least 12 hours before using.
