Q. What does your typical workday look like?
A. Typical day is lots of writing, some business work on the phone, reading, research. About 10-12 hours. Writing is one part inspiration and nine parts perspiration.
Q. What do you like best about your job/career?
A. I like best the opportunity to be creative and the freedom to set my own schedule.
Q. What do you find most frustrating?
A. Most frustrating is I wish I had more inspiration and less perspiration.
Q. What kinds of experience and course work should a student focus on to pursue a career like yours?
A. For writing, the two best things to do are to read a lot, paying attention to how good writers write, and, so far as courses go, focus less on writing classes than on learning something that gives you a way to see the world and your experience: could be English, psychology, law; could be medicine, social work, science. You can turn whatever you love into writing. That's always best.
